Joni Mitchell has been cited as a major influence in a lot of music. I've heard bits and pieces of her work over the years, but have never sat down to listen to a whole album.
Apparently she wrote this album after a tough break up. It's not whiny but rather melancholy. It has a feel of regret, loss and a lot of honesty. The sadness in the song "Blue" cuts deep.
It's a great album and I get why it's on a lot of the Top lists, I'd be willing to check out more of her stuff.
